Wes Streeting, Shadow Secretary for Health & Social Care, visited Cornwall today. He was accompanied by Labour’s Parliamentary Candidates Perran Moon and Jayne Kirkham on a visit to the Royal Cornwall Hospital at Treliske, where he spoke to staff in the emergency and maternity wards about the immense pressures they face including staff shortages; 10,000 posts in the region are unfilled. He described Labour’s plans to abolish the non-dom tax status and ploughing some of the money into doubling the number of medical school places, and recruiting more nurses, midwives and district nurses.

After speaking to people on the doorsteps of Truro, he had lunch with Labour campaigners from across Cornwall before heading to Blackwater for more doorstep conversations and where he spoke to Camborne, Redruth & Hayle’s Perran Moon of Labour’s plan to recruit and retain more GPs (see video).
