Camborne, Redruth and Hayle Labour Party launched their campaign for the May 2025 local elections on Saturday in Camborne Town Square.

Labour MP Perran Moon was present and the event centred around a rallying speech he gave to candidates and activists in which he said Labour have a real chance to win seats in Camborne, Redruth and Hayle and oust the Conservatives, who currently lead Cornwall Council but have seen resignations, controversy and chaos, culminating in a vote of no confidence in their leader, Linda Taylor, late last year.

He said “What would help me do my job, both here and in Westminster, would be to have good, strong Labour Councillors to help me enact Labour policies”.

Councillor Stephen Barnes, Redruth’s current Town Mayor who will be standing again in the elections, said “The 1st May local election is poignant for the town of Redruth.

There is not a doubt that Redruth is a great place to live and work in. From having lived here all my life and sat on the Town Council since 1985, I have seen the town adapt through time. However, there has been a clear need to revitalise, whilst most crucially, keeping the history and residents of the town at the heart of it.”

Andy Netherwood, Labour’s Cornwall Council candidate for Perranporth, said “I’m standing for Cornwall Council because I want to serve the community that welcomed me after my service in the Armed Forces.

This community deserves a strong, effective voice, and I’m committed to being just that.”

Camborne, Redruth and Hayle Labour were out with Perran Moon knocking on doors across the constituency and listening to residents’ issues until Christmas and will continue to knock on doors with their Cornwall Council and Town candidates from next weekend until the elections on May 1^st.
